Preston Urban Design

The new proposal was about adding a new piece of urban fabric to a vital part of Preston city centre. The area was fragmented and diminished,maneuvering around the site was difficult as there were many tight spaces. Our brief was to make the journey from train station to the university more interesting, the project quickly developed as many ideas were placed on the table. Thirty-eight students worked on the project which brought about a large paletteof ideas. The main problematic areas where Corporation st and the highway, in the end we opted to make the whole of Corporation st pedestrianised and then redirecting the traffic to the city centre. We have a tunnel situated underneath the highway where pedestrians would enter to gain access t theuniversity. The areas consists of :-

• Retail (along Fishergate)

• Performance school

• Residential(housing, live-work units)

• Architecture studio• Hotel

• Leisure and entertainment area

• Uclan exhibition entre

• Science museum

• Memorial
