Year | 2016
Location | Sheffield Sheaf Valley

“A social enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise pro t for shareholders and owners. Social enterprises tackle a wide range of social and environmental issues and operate in all parts of the economy. By using business solutions to achieve public good, the Government believes that social enterprises have a distinct and valuable role to play in helping create a strong, sustainable and socially inclusive economy. “

CREATING A ‘SHEAF VALLEY URBAN GROWING NETWORK’

Utilizing the vast array of existing organisations related to food production, waste and education, this project looks to build upon Sheffield’s existing thriving community of food growing enthusiasts, by identifying the key user groups and working in collaboration with these, the project will aim to create a network of these organisations, providing a common Centre for them to meet and share ideas.

The Centre will become a facilitator for conversations between different members of the network; it creates links between members of the community that would not normally interact with each other. Social cohesion through growing food. The project proposes to establish a new Social Enterprise who will initiate, fund and manage the procurement of the proposed Centre.
